Estimation of Age of Abrasion by Gross Examination at Autopsy: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: One of the most important aspects medicolegal injury examination is determination ageof injury. This study wound dating from gross abrasion being conducted to look intothe accuracy wounds by age determined changes with that time infliction ofinjury.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 102 dead bodies brought for autopsy, having a well demarcatedabrasion and known were selected. Based on duration infliction, abrasions werecategorized into 13 groups. Gross follow blunt trauma studied correlated frameof occurrence abrasion.Conclusion: A significant relationship between color (X272=387.59, P<0.001) was observed.On examination, bright red seen in aged <24 hours; reddish scabbed from10 32 brownish 16.5 72.17 dark brown 35.5 to157 black observed only after 72 hours (3 days). Abrasions scab fallen ata margin 7th 14th days, scabs completely falling off exposing hypopigmented skin wereobserved >336 (>2 weeks).
